The burden these guys carry, unbefrickenbelievable. One nurse practitioner who couldn't quite keep her persuasion away from the bedside, and all became clear. Who trains these people to be such clear and honest thinkers, with depth-loads of tragedy disguised on the side. How many lives have they chosen for and against God, while maintaining principles of advocacy, so crazy wise.
I've been truly moved each and every time I told my truth, and men stood by my side. After asking one too many ridiculous questions about the possibility of organ donation, I had to admit "I've never faced even an ounce of death", and he wiped an invisible tear from his eye. This from a pediatric cardiologist who understands severe, wiped HIS eye.
All I needed from him was to be allowed to hear the truth. That not every life is worth saving, not even my precious newborn, that's what he saw reflected in MY eyes. No matter which oath he depends on to get him through a basic, unfair day...he took my side. And when I got home to the assaults of the not-understanding, I leaned on his wise.
Still don't know the breadth and depth of all I'm facing. I just know that advocacy is more valuable than the healthcare itself. And when the time comes, to bring death into life for my very first time, our long-time friend/obgyn/mayor wants to be by our side.
